A Magyar Nemzeti Bank köteles minden megrongálódott papírpénzt bevizsgálni és (amennyiben 51 %-a ugyanabból a bankjegyből származik) érvényes, azonos értékű bankjegyre kicserélni. Ezt akkor is megteszik, ha a bankót olyan apró darabokra vágták, hogy az eljárás költsége és a ráfordított idő messze meghaladja a bankjegy értékét. Egy 256 darabra vágott ezerforintos, melynek darabkái 2 mm szélesek, még mindig ezer forintot ér. Ha azonban egy bankjegy érvénytelennek minősül, azt bezúzzák, és tömbökbe préselve fűtőanyagnak használják. (Puzzle, talált tárgy, 2009) Ezek a pénztéglák 1 mm-es papírfecnikből állnak. Tehát ez az az egység, ahol a pénz megszűnik pénznek lenni, szemétté válik, már nem névértékén, pusztán anyagi valóságában létezik, így elveszíti fétisjellegét, szabad vele a játék.

The Hungarian National Bank is obligated to examine all damaged banknotes (provided that 51% of it originates from the same paper bill) and exchange them for valid bank notes of identical value. They are required to do this even if the money has been cut into such small pieces that the cost of the procedure and the time it requires exceeds the value of the bill. A 100-forint note whose pieces measure 2 mm in width
is still worth 100 Hungarian forints. Invalid bank notes are destroyed and compressed into blocks of paper pulp that are used as fuel. These “money bricks” are composed of 1 mm paper shreds. This unit marks the stage at which money ceases to be money and turns into waste. It no longer exists in terms of its nominal value, it is present now in a purely material sense and thus loses its fetish-like properties; it is free game.
We are free to construct from it, say, the mosaic image of King Mátyás “the Just”, if we so desire.
